چکیده

We determine the sensitivities of the EVLA and VLA antennas over their full tuning ranges through analysis of the correlation coefficients. Interim EVLA antennas can tune over the full range of 940 through 2200 MHz. The prototype L-band OMT shows good performance over its design frequency range. The betterperforming interim EVLA antennas meet the Project Book sensitivity requirements above ∼1150 MHz. VLA antennas are capable of tuning from 1225 through 1900 MHz, with some limited capability between 1100 and 1225 MHz.

EVLA Memo #152 Characterizing the Sensitivity of the EVLA at L-band

We present sensitivity measurements of the EVLA at L-band between 0.95 and 2 GHz. These are obtained using three EVLA antennas that are equipped with the final, EVLA-compliant L-band receivers. The reported SEFD values meet and/or exceed the EVLA sensitivity requirements over about 70% of the band, but are too high by 12–38% over the frequency range 1425–1750 MHz.

EVLA Memo #165 The Impact of the New Thermal Gap Receiver Assembly on the Sensitivity of the EVLA at L-Band (1–2 GHz)

We present sensitivity measurements of the EVLA at L-band between 1 and 2 GHz to assess the impact of the receivers with the new thermal gap assembly. Our on-the-sky test results are consistent with lab measurements, and show that the sensitivity improves by an average value of ∼7% in the frequency range 1–1.55 GHz, and degrades by an average value of ∼3% in the frequency range 1.55–2 GHz. The ...

EVLA Memo #188 The Impact of the New Thermal Gap Receiver Assembly on the Sensitivity of the EVLA at C-Band (4–8GHz)

Sensitivity measurements of the EVLA at C-band (4–8GHz) are presented to assess the impact of the receivers with the new thermal gap assembly. The on-the-sky test results are consistent with lab measurements, and show sensitivity improvement across the full frequency range of the C-band receiver. The overall improvement in the sensitivity is ∼9.4%. In the frequency range 4–6GHz, the sensitivity...

EVLA Memo #168 Assessing the Impact of Using Three Cryogenic Compressors on the Performance of the EVLA

We present dewar temperature and system temperature measurements for the eight cryogenically cooled receivers of a subset of four EVLA antennas that have undergone a reconfiguration to use three cryogenic compressors instead of four. We compare the changes in the system temperatures in these antennas with those obtained from a subset of eight other EVLA antennas that have not undergone such a r...

The EVLA: Prospects for HI

To continue the unparalleled success of the Very Large Array (VLA) for radio astronomy, the facility is currently being converted to become the ’Expanded VLA’ (EVLA). The EVLA will radically improve the VLA in order to cover the full 0.93-50 GHz radio wavelength range without gaps, provide up to an order of magnitude better sensitivity, and to allow observations at much larger bandwidths and sp...
